4 rules in cricket that should be changed.

Image
The first ever international cricket match was played in 1844 and the first-ever test cricket match was played in 1877 and since then a lot of cricketing laws have been made, changed or modified over the years. But there are still a few laws or rules which I feel can be changed or modified for the enhancement of the game:- 1. Toss The Toss -   Instead of tossing a coin in Test cricket, the choice should directly be given to the visiting team's captain to decide what he wants to do. This will almost exclude home advantage and one sided matches from the equation. Although it is not required in shorter formats as home advantage and toss doesn't matter a lot in shorter formats but if this rule will change in Test cricket, it will add a lot of excitement in the test cricket. 2. The Concept of Umpire's Call, Imapct and Pitching should be removed. What if a fast bowler bowls a brilliant inswinger and the batsman completely misreads it, takes a long front foot for outswinger and g

Why is Rohit Sharma more successful than Virat Kohli as an IPL Captain?

Image
Two best batsmen of the highest quality, two dominating characters, both in their own ways, two individuals who always want to win; a lot of similarities between the two modern greats. But there is one thing which separates them, there IPL's captaincy records. Rohit Sharma has won 4 IPL titles as a skipper for his team whereas Virat Kohli has only been able to take his team to the finals once. What separates Rohit Sharma as a captain from Virat Kohli in the IPL? The thing which separates both of them as a skipper is the quality of players in their team. When Rohit Sharma started captaining Mumbai Indians, he got a lot of quality and experienced players in the form of Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh, Lasith Malinga, Mitchell Johnson and all of them were in their supreme form too, who knew how to handle pressure and how to perform in different situations. Year after year Rohit Sharma got new stars in the form of Jasprit Bumrah, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Mitchell McClenaghan a

Why is Test Cricket losing popularity? What are the things that can be done to increase the popularity of Test Cricket?

Image
Is test match cricket dying? Is popularity of test cricket declining? The answer is yes . Yes, the viewership of test cricket has gone down significantly. People now-a-days prefer to watch ODI Cricket or T20 cricket more than the test cricket. After all no one will keep everything aside and watch 6-7 hours of cricket daily for 5 days. Why is Test Cricket facing a decline? The biggest reason is that the white ball cricket has become a lot popular. The shorter formats contain a lot of entertainment, excitement, drama & even money when compared to test cricket. The pitches in test matches are either a lot bowling friendly or very flat which either results in a 3-4 day game or results in a draw which excludes excitement and thriller from the equation. Another such reason is the lack of contest between the players. The fiercer the battle between the players,  the more interesting the match turns out to watch. One more reason is that, a lot of players opt to play shorter formats as the

Has Sourav Ganguly given more match winners to Indian Cricket Team than MS Dhoni?

Image
Gautam Gambhir in a recent interview said, "Unlike Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni did not give enough quality players to India". He further added, "Barring Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah, there aren't a lot of 'world-beaters' who evolved during MSD'S captaincy". I personally believe it is quite unfair to compare two of the best captains of India. One who started winning overseas when it was almost impossible for a team to even think about that whereas one has every trophy in his trophy cabinet. If we talk about the match winners given by both the captains, the list is very long. Sourav gave Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Mohammad Kaif, Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni himself too to the Indian Cricket Team. But MSD almost gave the same number of match winners to Indian team as well. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ra

Should Babar Azam be compared to Virat Kohli?

Image
If you have a batting average of 45+ in all the 3 formats and the current ICC ranking of no. 5 in Tests, no. 3 in ODIs and no. 1 in T-20Is, then you are definitely a great player. After all not everyone is so consistent in all the 3 formats and not everyone has these kind of numbers either! But should we compare him to the modern great? A young career of 26 tests, 74 ODIs and 38 T-20Is is still too small to be compared with a guy who has played 86 tests, 248 ODIs and 81 T-20Is with the better consistency. Virat has almost scored 4 times more runs and centuries than Babar Azam in tests and ODIs. Apart from these numbers, there are a lot of things that should be compared too. The number of games Virat has won for India are a lot more than Babar has won for Pakistan. The intensity, the dominance, the contribution in victories, the performances under pressure, the performances across the world & the performances in a run chase are a few more things where Virat is a lot ah
