Did AB de Villiers retire too early?

The Superman, the 360 degree player, a great batsman, a gun fielder and more than that a great human being – yes, I am talking about Abraham Benjamin de Villiers. What a gem of a player he was!

He scored the fastest fifty (16 balls), the fastest hundred (31 balls) and the fastest 150 (64 balls) and he also scored just 33 runs of 220 deliveries against Australia in 2012 to save the test match. This shows how versatile player he was! He also won the ODI player of the year award thrice, in 2010, 2014 & 2015.
(His fastest 50, fastest 100 & fastest 150 is still a record and he achieved these all 3 records against West Indies in 2015. He achieved the first two records in the same game and the 3rd one in some other game)

He bowled, he kept wickets, he batted brilliantly and he fielded magnificently - all in all, he did everything on the cricket field. And one day all of a sudden, in May 2018, he announced his retirement at the age of 34. Everyone was shocked because he had no injuries neither he was out of form. He later said that he had run out of fuel and that was the reason he decided to retire from the international cricket.

But he kept on playing T-20 leagues across the globe and was batting well, fielding well & was in good touch and then a question struck in my mind that did he retire too early?

I believe the way he was playing before his retirement and the way he played after his retirement, he could have atleast played international cricket for a couple of years or maybe 3 years more. Also, the news from the South African camp now-a-days is that they are trying to get ABD back into the international side and if it happens, it will be a great news for ABD fans and cricket fans.
