Why India hasn't won any ICC Trophy since champions Trophy 2013?
India has performed extremely well in the recent past, both in ODI cricket & T-20 cricket. They've been quite dominant and won the majority of the bilateral series as well. They have consistently maintained their ICC rankings among the top 3 teams too. Then why haven't they won an ICC Trophy since the champions trophy 2013?
Here is the list of how Indian team has performed post Champions Trophy 2013 in ICC events -
2014 T-20 World Cup - Finalists
2015 World Cup - Semi-finalists
2016 T-20 World Cup - Semi Finalists
2017 Champions Trophy - Finalists
2019 World Cup - Semi-Finalists
Now if you look at these stats, one thing is quite clear that they have cleared the group stage and entered the knockout stage quite comfortably. Then where have the things gone wrong?
- The Indian team hasn't played to their potential in the knockout stages and not performing well in the knockout stages on a regular basis is a big issue.
- In 2015 World Cup Semi-Final, Australia posted a big score of 328 while batting 1st.
- In 2017 Champions Trophy Final, Pakistan scored 338 while batting first.
- In 2016 T-20 World Cup Semi-Final, Indian bowlers could not defend a score of 192.
3. Also, the Indian top order has been exposed by the quality new ball bowlers.
- In Champions Trophy 2017 final, Indian team was struggling at 54/5 after 13.3 overs
- In World Cup 2019 Semi-Final, Indian team was struggling at 24/4 after 9.6 overs.
So to win an ICC Trophy in the near future, Indian team need to address the above mentioned issues and perform well as a unit together. I have a gut feeling that the Indian team will win one of the two T-20 world cups which are scheduled this year and the next year i.e. 2020 (if happens) & 2021 and who knows they might end up winning both.
I cannot agree more....good work bro
